New Moves, Jeffrey, Selling Light and Messianic Jews

ANGUS ANTIQUE CENTER, ADAMS, PA, JEFFREY’S CORNER OF THE UNIVERSE.

Dance has not been an art form natural to this body. I want to move this body in ways it has not moved before. I want to contort, twist, reach, bend, fold, arch, wiggle, wriggle and preform the occasional high kick. Dance and move and go beyond my current limitations. Open up new possibilities. Unravel.

Jeffrey is a Messianic Jew. A Rabbinic preacher of sorts and a seller of light. Barry and I met Jeffrey today in an antique market in Adams, PA. We learned about lamps, all different kinds of lamps. But mostly, that a Czechoslovakian lamp company called ‘Bellova’, not to be confused with the American, now Japanese watch company ‘Bulova’, created some of the most beautiful lamps I have ever seen. And Jeffrey had the most luminous display of lamps that I have ever seen. It was a display of light itself.

Jeffrey is going through a divorce after 15 years of marriage. He was sad, but not broken because as he said,’I have the Lord at my feet every day and I sell light.’ I know there are Jews that love Jesus. I’ve seen those bumper stickers, “JEWS FOR JESUS”, yet I myself had never met a JEW FOR JESUS.

Jeffrey was an gymnast as a young man. He contorted his body in many ways beyond my ability to contort. He also gave of himself in many more ways that I have ever given of myself. He did not marry until he was 55 years old. Then he did. Then he divorced. His wife moved back to her beloved state of Florida because she hated Pennsylvania.

Jeffrey is a preacher. A rabbinic preacher. He is Jew, I guess. But a Jew that believes that Jesus was the messiah. Or maybe one of the messiahs? I don’t know,. Our conversation did not go that far. But wikipedia tells me this:

Messianic Judaism is a modernist and syncretic movement of Protestant Christianity that incorporates some elements of Judaism and other Jewish traditions into evangelicalism.

The conversation went from random lamps, to Bellova, to Jews for Jesus, to the location of the Messianic College not far from where we were, to Jeffrey selling his house. Barry asked if his wife got the house. NO! But she got all the money. Jeffrey did not care. Jeffrey is a steward. We are here on this earth to shepherd. We don’t own anything, we only rent. We are caretakers until there is another set of shepherds. Jeffrey keeps the lights on. Jeffrey can contort, twist, reach, bend, fold, arch, wiggle and wriggle. I am not so sure he has the occasional high kick anymore, but he certainly doesn’t need to. As long as he has the Lord.

JEFFREY, SELLER OF LIGHT.
