Hitching rides on trains across America in the early 1900's created an organic community of folks weary of modern life while looking for a deeper meaning. These vagabonds, or hobos, as they had come to be known, collectively created a system of signs as a shared code for survival. These 'HOBO SYMBOLS' would help the weary traveller find work, food or a friendly face in the towns that bordered the railroad. They also warned of danger to the traveling hobo. The very first Hobo Symbol that Val appropriated into Civilian's designs was "FRESH WATER, SAFE CAMPING" after 9/11/2001 to embrace and acknowledge the basics needs of every human for survival on this planet.
